Iber Cup Estoril 2018

A massive step up from Barcelona 2017. The number of teams competing, the level of football, the crowds and the experience was so much more and better.

In terms of football, the matches were a lot more competitive and there were some really big academies and football schools involved mixed with a few small local clubs.

Once again the experience for the boys was phenomenal. The Europeans discipline, good solid structure and team work on the field was something new to most of the boys who travelled for the first time.

Overall i think both teams did really well. In all honesty if we had a bit of luck and a more favourable draw both teams could’ve quite easily reached the semi-finals at worst.

U10 Category 2008, was beaten in the quarter finals by the defending champions and eventual losing finalist CF Os Belenenses who lost narrowly to SL Benfica.

U11 Category 2007, lost in the round 16 against eventual winners of the tournament Madrid Fusion who played a brilliant brand of football typical of the Spanish. At 11 years old they kept possession really well and their movement off the ball was amazing.

To end, personally I think the tour was a success considering all the factors.

We look forward to the rest of 2018…
